Ketogenic Breakfast Ideas

Ketogenic Breakfast Ideas

For most keto dieters, eggs are the go-to breakfast staple – scrambled, fried, poached, boiled or as an omelette – anyhow you like them is fine.  You can also freely eat your fill of bacon, avocado, cold cuts, olives, nuts, smoked salmon and cheese as well as adding any healthy fats such as olive oil, coconut oil, butter, mayonnaise and coconut cream.  Keto friendly vegetables include leafy greens, zucchini, cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus and eggplant to name a few.

The above list of items will tend to form your breakfast basics.  Below we’ve outlined a few more creative ideas for ketogenic breakfasts.  You’ll find a tonne of recipes on the internet if you want more detailed instructions.

Frittata – for example spinach; mushroom and goats cheese; or bacon and onion. You can also pour your frittata mix into muffin tins for variety and an easy, portable snack.

Keto Pancakes – a simple keto pancake batter is eggs with some cottage cheese and almond or coconut flour. A little baking powder will help it rise a bit and adding a handful of blueberries will provide extra flavour and colour.

Fried Eggplant & Halloumi – you’ll love the mix of textures from combining eggplant and halloumi cheese, as well as the saltiness from the cheese.

Keto Porridge – think about mixing ingredients like chia seeds, flaxseed (linseed), sesame seeds, coconut flour or psyllium husk with eggs and cream or coconut milk. Warm on the stove top until it thickens. Top with some nuts or berries.

Keto Smoothie - blend coconut milk with a handful of berries and a dash of vanilla for a creamy and delicious smoothie. Or try coconut cream, spinach and lime juice for a refreshing green edition.

Yoghurt & Berries – Blend your own keto dairy-free version of yoghurt with coconut cream, vanilla and berries. Top with fresh berries, nuts or grated coconut.

Sardines & Veg – a tin of sardines makes a nutritious base for any keto meal.  Add some broccoli, asparagus or spinach for even more nutrients.

Cauliflower Hash Browns – grate the cauliflower and mix with eggs and onion before frying.
